Statement of Significance

A building whose importance is the presence of a two storied facade maintaining the townscape in visual proximity to other adjacent and significant buildings and spaces,, the Esplanade Hotel and the former Trades Hall. Its corner location reinforces the critical environmental importance of the building.

Physical Description

Two storied brick former hotel; verandahs over street pavement are now removed and replaced with out-of-character cantilevered awnings, and the brickwork rendered and painted. The building is located on a corner site, the facades to both streets are included in the assessment, including the section of facade of differing architectural character in Pakenham St.
