Historical and social association with the establishment of the town. Commemorating the life and work of Mercy Taylor, an outstanding woman of the goldrush period.
Painted stone monument in the form of a drinking fountain using gothic motifs and a symmetrical plan. Located in the Bayley Street Park (refer to site 29).
Mercy Taylor was a prominent goldfields nurse during the typhoid epidemics that swept the area during the 189os and early 1900s. The local townspeople were horrified when she was murdered by a bell boy in a hotel during a visit to Sydney.
