The site and water tank represents associations with the railways. The water tank is a landmark along the line.
In July 1925, the PWD had completed the construction of the line from Lake Grace Station to the '9 mile siding' (Beenong). The railway was officially opened through to Newdegate on 15 February 1926. The siding was closed on 23 September 1972. The water tank is a landmark along the line.
