Duplex, 3-5 Reuben Street is aesthetically significant as an example of Fremantle’s vernacular architecture. Typical attached pair of cottages dating from the early twentieth century. Historically significant as a representation of working people’s living conditions in the Fremantle area.
Duplex, 3-5 Reuben Street is a single storey timber framed and weatherboard clad and corrugated iron hipped roof duplex. The duplex has a skillion roofed verandah supported by timber posts, decorative brackets and balustrades to number 3. Number 5 has a brick clad façade, aluminium window frames and bagged rendered pillars on the verandah which are not original. No 3 has timber framed double hung sash windows and a brick chimney extant.The following places form a significant group and contribute to the streetscape of Reuben Street: 3-5, 7, 8, 9 & 11.
Two cottages are listed in the rate books of 1904/5.
