The Old Regent Theatre has considerable historic and social significance for its association with the recreational activities of the local community. It provided for a popular form of entertainment from cl928 into the 1960s.

History

The Old Regent Theatre was built cl928 prior to which entertainment in the town was provided by travelling shows. The theatre was owned by Consolidated Theatres and was a popular social activity until the opening of the Drive-in theatre. The Regent Theatre was used as a Police and Citizen's Hall and then the Speedway Club. In recent years it was sold privately and is now a residence. [Local Knowledge]
