Statement of Significance

The Waddy Well school site has historic significance given its connection to the development of education in the district.

History

The school was opened in 1925 by the Hon. Alex McCallum, Minister for Works. It closed on 26/04/1940. The first teacher was Germaine Butler and children from the following families are known to have attended in the first year :Redhall, Coodlet, White, Tamblyn, Williams, Anderson, McGilp, Kerr and Morcombe.
The well was constructed 1913 by Peed & Tobin. It was 10 metres deep and had a windless and two buckets of 10 and 40 gallons. Water was used by travellers on the Coorow-Latham road and by local settlers. The well was on the north side of the Coorow-Latham road. Currently the well has silted in and is not in use.
