Physical Description

Large Federation style house with a weatherboard addition on the southern side which is out of character with the original house. The house features a large gable with timber decoration, double hung sash windows. Other detailing includes large ceiling roses in the two front rooms, original mantle pieces in excellent order with original tiles, high skirting boards and wide architraves. The property is on two titles. The rear garden has many mature trees while the erythrina at the front of the house is rare and comes from Burma. Originally tile, the place now has a corrugated iron roof.

History

Mr Arthur Hillman's residence. Hillman was a State trained Engineer. His father acted as a Surveyor General in absence of J S Roe. The late Mrs Strickland insisted that part of this home included a section of the fmr Jones Woodbridge Inn. Baltic pine linings and ceilings are of note. The weatherboard section of this home is part of a very early building that requires further investigation. The window on the south wall is believed to be very old.
