Statement of Significance

Historic - used by Aboriginals as a known water source. Nightwell has an Aboriginal legend attached
to it.
Social - used as a watering hole by drovers on this particular stock route ie from Jarramongup to
Kendenup.

Physical Description

Nightwell is located in the bed of the Peenebup Creek, in a long solid granite outcrop.

History

Nightwell was used as a watering hole along the stock route and prior to that Aboriginals relied on this
water source. At about 9pm at night water would rush in from a cleft in the rock, this being a dry hole
during the day. In the 1920s a surveyor blasted the hole to enlarge it and spoilt the supply.
