This building is historically important for its place in helping to guide ships into Geraldton harbour over 100 years ago. It differs from later lighthouses in having the tower for the light attached to living quarters for the light keeper and his family, rather than separate structures. Despite some unsympathetic work on the building its original character could be restored. It is held in esteem locally and is used as headquarters for the Geraldton Historical Society.
Erected in 1876 the building consists of a rectangular tower for the light with attached rooms which served as the light keeper's living quarters. All have walls of limestone with corrugated iron roof and a verandah across the front. A timber lean-to at the rear contains added facilities for bathroom etc, not included in the assessment.
