Statement of Significance

The Outdoor Picture Theatre has considerable social significance to the local community as a popular source of entertainment, especially during the 1960s and 70s prior to the introduction of video recorders. The place has further rarity value as one of only a few remaining outdoor theatres in the district.

Physical Description

Situated on the corner of Hepburn and Naughton Streets adjacent to the Mount Magnet Anzac Memorial Hall, the Outdoor Picture Theatre consists of a viewing area enclosed by corrugated iron fencing and a brick entrance wall to the street (west) elevation. The projection room, positioned above the brick entrance, is clad with asbestos sheeting and features a skillion roof. A small white screen is located at the east end of the theatre.
