1850s section of the building very significant, representing the early settlement of the Swan Valley. Subsequent additions less significant but representative of changing needs over time. 1974 section detracts from the aesthetic significance of the place. Olive trees significant.
Oldest section of the building is a two storeyed brick cottage dating from c.1850s. The building was extended in 1900 and in 1974. Entry to building is via an avenue of mature olive trees.
The original house was probably built by Dr Richard Hinds who bought the original Caversham property from Peter Shadwell in 1835. The property was purchased by Robert de Burgh in 1856.
