House, 8 Walker Street, is a typical weatherboard and iron single storey house dating from 1945. The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical workers' houses in the South Fremantle area.
Single storey weatherboard and iron cottage with a symmetrical facade constructed in 1945. The walls are painted horizontal weatherboards. The roof gabled with no eaves and clad with corrugated iron. The verandah is under a broken back corrugated iron roof with alternating red and white roof sheets. The verandah is supported by square timber posts and a timber crossed balustrade and some areas of timber lattice. There is a timber picket fence to the front boundary, a metal arbor by the front gate and a small garden area behind.
House, 8 Walker Street was built c. 1945 on the site of a cottage built c. 1900. The original cottage was built for Mary and John Noake. John was a carpenter. Title to the property passed to Isabella Noakes in 1935/36. Isabella was also listed as the occupant of the house from this time and c. 1945, she married to become Isabella Galway. Her husband, James, was listed as the occupant until the early 1960s and Isabella continued to live in the house until her death in 1976. House, 8 Walker Street has had a couple of owners since this time.
A diagram dated 1954 shows a relatively small asbestos cottage with a full length front verandah and several galvanised iron and verandah structures at the rear.
