STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
No 31-33 Duke Street is a pair of single storey houses constructed in limestone and brick with corrugated iron roofs. The place has historic and aesthetic value for its contribution to Plympton's high concentration of worker’s cottages and associated buildings. It contributes to the local community’s sense of place.
The place has considerable heritage value for its intrinsic aesthetic value as a Federation Bungalow style duplex and it retains a moderate degree of authenticity and a high degree of integrity.
The extensions to the rear have no significance.
AESTHETIC SIGNIFICANCE
No 31-33 Duke Street has considerable aesthetic value as a Federation Bungalow style duplex. It retains all the characteristic features of a dwelling of the type and period.
HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE
No 31-33 Duke Street has some historic value. It was part of the suburban residential development associated with the expansion of East Fremantle during the Goldrush period of the 1880s and 1890s.

No 31-33 Duke Street is a duplex constructed in limestone and brick with gabled corrugated iron roofs. It is a fine expression of the Federation Bungalow style applied to a duplex. The front elevation is symmetrically planned with a pair of tall Flemish bond brick gables. The lower walls are random course limestone with brick quoins. The front facades have matching bullnose roof verandahs supported on timber posts with timber balustrades at the verandah edge.
The place is consistent with the pattern of development of Plympton and plays an important role in the pattern of development of a working class suburb.

History

Plympton is a cohesive precinct where most of the places were constructed in the late nineteenth century and the first quarter of the twentieth century. It is comprised primarily of homes for workers and their families with a high concentration of small lots with timber, brick and stone cottages.
This pair has been well restored.
