Physical Description

Located across (west of) the Marradong/Quindanning Road from the Quindanning Hotel.
The building was demounted and relocated from Hake a ( near Dwellingup) when the mill closed
down re- erected on present site. It was originally used for Picture shows and dances prior to being
used as a store at Quindanning owned by John Hogan.

History

The site of the local store which operated here for two periods. Initially in the 1930's/40's by the
Morgan family who owned the Quindanning Hotel. Prior to this the Morgan's had operated a
grocery shop next door to the hotel with part of the shop being the post office run by Morgan's only
daughter. (1)
For the convenience of Frank Morgan's sons as they married, two brick dwellings were constructed
on land opposite the hotel. Between these dwellings a weatherboard hall was erected. The
purpose, no doubt, was to attract more clients to his establishment over the road. A vivid
description of dances at Quindanning is given by Thelma Atkins in her book. (2)
Quindanning was without a local store for some years. In February 1953, John Hogan reestablished
one in rented premises beside the hotel. Business increased to such an extent that
within three years he was forced to find larger premises. The only alternative was to procure a
lease of the old hall opposite which was still in use as a general store in 1970. (3)
