The site represents a way of life associated with education.
A plaque marks the site
One of the first priorities of the early settlers was to establish a school for their children. The government provided schools after applications were received for the relevant communities who could substantiate a need and a suitable number of children. Once a Government school was established, a minimum number of 8 students was required to be maintained to keep the school open.
School first operated in Buniche from T Davies house as an assisted school. Later a school was built near Buniche Government Dam. It was the former Beenong School that the local farmers reassembled in Buniche. It was open between 1940 and 1946. The teachers for the 21 students during that time were Miss Alga, Mrs Slade and Mrs Bridgers. Sometime after it closed, the building was reloaded to loc 111 between Lake Biddy and Newdegate. A plaque was erected in 1983.
