Aesthetically significant as an example of Fremantle’s vernacular architecture. Typical attached pair of cottages dating from the early twentieth century. Historically significant as a representation of working people’s living conditions in the Fremantle area.
Single storey painted stone and zincalume hipped roof duplex. There is a rendered dividing wall and the roof has four brick chimneys with rendered corbelling. The dropped verandah is supported by timber posts, No. 4 has been enclosed (not original). There are timber double hung sash windows and timber panelled doors and sidelights and fanlights. Duplex 2-4 and 6-8 Agnes Street are similar in style and form a significant group and contribute to the streetscape of Agnes Street.
Agnes St was gazetted in 1906. Duplexes 2 - 4 Agnes Street are first recorded in 1904/05 Rate Books as Cottages No. 26 & 28 respectively. The owner of both was W.H. Jones.
