The store and post office building has local significance for its role in the development of the town, being the first store and as an important place for social interaction.
Steel framed, corrugated iron shed, rectangular in shape with a corrugated iron gable roof. A lean-to has been added to the west. The section that was used as a store has a door and large display window to the north-east. Original paintwork of white with a green roof is evident.
This was the third building constructed in the townsite, after the school and school house. Prior to its construction stores for the residents were brought from Carnamah, a trip of several hours provided the road was in good condition. The store and post office was built and operated by the McDonald family, who also used it as the family's living quarters. The store also supplied fuel from bowsers located to the east side. (The bowsers have been removed).
