Statement of Significance

The Commercial Hotel has historic significance as the first and longest licenced hotel in Kojonup, originally established by the Elverd family. Although there have been many unsympathetic additions and alterations mainly to the front, the original fabric at the rear of the hotel and along the rooms has high aesthetic significance and should be preserved.

Physical Description

Depsite the front appearance of the hotel, the original face stone, brick quoining and iron roof fabric of the 1890s hotel building can be seen in-tact at the rear of the refurbished front part of the hotel.

Separate corrugated iron 4-roomed cottage style staff quarters also at rear.

Extensive additions and alterations in rendered brick (cement?)

Originally Federation Free Style. Façade treatment has elements of Inter-War Art Deco.

The original pressed tin ceiling in the dining room is still extant.
