This type of system is significant to the area when surveying was done in the mid 1880's due to the elevation and gave accuracy of distance when maps were being prepared.
Sandford Rocks are situated approximately 10k North East of the Westonia townsite, along the Booderockin Road. It is a nature reserve of 806ha of granite rock, scrub and woodland. It has many species of plants and animals. Thr trig oint HK 148 is set on the highest point of the rock towards the rear of the outcrop where you will find a cairn of stones with a pole in the middle.
C.C. Hunt in 1864 named the rock the Yorkarakine Rocks which had this name until 1985 when it was changed to Sandford Rock after the surveyor H.S. King.
