Statement of Significance
The site represents the importance of education and a way of life no longer practised. It has an association with the early settlers.
History
The area north east of Lake Grace was first settled in 1919. No school was available for the children, so the children's education took place in the lounge of AB Thompson's new dwelling in 1923. In 1924, the recently vacated former school room from Lake Grace was relocated to a paddock on W. D. Boulton's farm. The students originally comprised of 2 Thompsons, 3 Merediths and 3 Duckworths. In 1925/26, Beenong's first cricket season was played on the north west corner of Bill Bennett's farm (Loc 12604) near the railway line. In 1926/1927, AB Thompson donated part of his farm (Loc 9510), half a mile north of Beenong Siding.
