The single storey brick and iron cottage, in the Federation
Arts & Crafts style, has cultural significance because:
it has long historical associations with the Whitfield
and Cariss families, valued members of the
Peppermint Grove community;

presents strikingly to the street;
it is part of a cultural group and a townscape area.

cottage where the stylistic elements of the decorative gables
are given greater prominence by the rhythm of the 'waterfall
front' arrangement. A high level of integrity has been
