The Carnamah Shire Office has local social significance only as the centre for local government in the district.
Located on MacPherson Street the Carnamah Shire Office is a large brick building with a tiled roof. The exterior brick walls are painted white. The building features large aluminium framed windows and a verandah to the front (south) elevation. It is surrounded by a low stone and brick fence.
The Carnamah Roads Board was formed on 17 November, 1923 and in 1929 the original Roads Board Offices and Hall were opened. In 1961 the Carnamah Roads Board became the Carnamah Shire Council. The Shire Offices were later relocated to the new Shire Hall. The present Shire Offices were built by the Geraldton Building Company for a cost of $212,501. The building was officially opened by
the Minister for Local Government, Mrs June Craig, on 17 December, 1980. (Westward to the Sea, p31, p98, p94, pi 02 & pi 08) Prior to the construction of the Shire Offices the site accommodated part of the Millar's Timber Yard and the manager's house. (Bridie Evans, Carnamah Notes, November, 1995)
