A large quartz reef, running north-south, was investigated for gold in the 1920s. Apparently the prospector was on his way to the goldfields when his horse went lame, while it recovered he decided to try his luck here. There is no record of any gold production.
The shafts are of social and historical importance being part of a heritage trail with other sites close to the Merredin town site where they can be easily accessed by tourists.
Two holes in the ground, some 50m apart, marked with granite rocks on concrete bases, bearing Bicentennial Plaques.
