Statement of Significance

The place represents associations with occupations in Hyden.

History

George Davey was a hairdresser in Hyden in the 1930s. In c1936, he
built a brick shop front and house behind. Through the war years he ran the mail service from Kondinin to
Hyden, and farms. Saturday was "mail day" during the 1930s, 40s and 50s. The shop had a number of
owners and different outlets over the years. In 1983 the R & I bank purchased the property and
constructed a small bank office with N. R. Lynch regional manager at the time.
