HISTORIC SITE OR SIGNIFICANT VEGETATION. Historic site without built features or with association to an historic personage. Recognise the site with a plaque, place name, paving stone or appropriate marker.

Statement of Significance

The site of the Railway Station has historic significance for its connection to the original location of the Dongara Station and Midland Railway line.

Physical Description

Site only, the row of large gum trees marks the road, on the east side of which stood the railway station.

History

Photographs of the building show its construction materials to be red ironstone with a frame and weatherboard extension. It was commissioned by the Midland Railway Company for use as the Dongara Station and station masters quarters in 1894 (see Railway House Place No. 55). The building is believed to have been designed and built by Gustave Liebe, who was contracted by the MRWA to build its stations. The building was demolished in 1975 when the new railway line to Eneabba was constructed which entailed rerouting the section of the line through Dongara away from the old station.
