Stockyard Gully and the cave have historic significance for their connection to the old coastal stock route between Perth and Champion Bay.
Stockyard gully caves area was part of the overland stock route between Perth and the northern grazing lands. Stockyard gully has tall limestone walls with a cave entrancu and this area was used as a place to hold stock overnight. (Source: 'The Old North Road' by W.J. De Burgh)
