Statement of Significance

The site and the place are significant in demonstrating ways of life no longer practised, and associations with the pioneering community of Bullaring.

History

In 1922, the first hall in Bullaring was transported from Kalgoorlie and reassembled. One of the first big events was a charity dance to raise funds from the Corrigin Hospital. Monthly dances were held and mostly raised funds for the Bullaring Sports Club, although the hall was free to the church who held regular services. The hall was used as a school venue for 3 years waiting for a school building. In 1928, the Bullaring Progress Association integrated the hall and sports committees into one committee. In the 1930s, the hall played an active role as the social focus of the Bullaring community. In 1937, the regular movies were still screening. During World War Two, the hall fell into disrepair, although a supper room was added. In 1958, a meeting was called to discuss a new hall. In 1962, the Bullaring Community Centre was constructed at a cost of £10000.
