Statement of Significance

The building is significant on the following grounds:
1. Built 1911 by TH Brown, designed in Dutch Colonial style by BH Dods.
2. Upper floors first used as Mrs Le Lievre's Coffee Palace; later became Temperance Hotel,
then Mardoc Guest House.
3. Ground floor has always housed a wide variety of retail outlets, including Edwin Howell
the chemist, a highly revered man.
4. The uniquely attractive and commanding presence of the building in Narrogin's main street
makes it an impressive and complementary feature with the Town Hall. It is very visible to
visitors approaching town from the north and east.
