Statement of Significance

The site represents a way of life and associations with a Kulin
identity.

History

In 1909, Richard (Dick) Mclnnes, his parents, brother Irvin, and
nephews Tom Mclnnes and Jack Ryan all came to East Wickepin, and then Kulin, from New South
Wales. Dick and Irvin selected land, and while Irvin cleared some land, Dick went to the north west to
work. By 1912 Dick was in Kulin and became a foundation member of the Roe Roads Board. Tom
and Jack farmed Dalmore for Dick after Irvin was killed in World War One.
Between 1919 and 1925 Dick Mclnnes was Chairman of the Roe Roads Board and was the inaugural
Chairman of the Kulin Roads Board in 1926, serving through until 1931.
In September 1970 Dick Mclnnes died, he was a bachelor. Tom's eldest son Haydn Mclnnes has run
the farm until recently (c1995). Haydn is a Kulin Shire Councillor, carrying on the Mclnnes family
tradition.
