The site was used as a racecourse from 1905-1935 with a lapse and no races from 1920 - 1930. The last race
was held in 1935 and had full totaliser facilities.
The Ravensthorpe Turf Club was established 1904 and races were held regularly for about 15 years with an
Annual Race Ball for presentation of trophies. The Race Club was rejuvenated in the 1930*s.
In 1935 the Department of Civil Aviation accepted the Phillips River Road Board proposal to declare the race
track as an official landing ground for light aircraft. It was adapted for use of light aircraft and used as an
airstrip 1935-1962.
It was used by Dr Hanrahan of Albany from 1947 to 1949 and by the Royal Flying Doctor until 1962 when a
larger aerodrome was constructed 13km NW of Ravensthorpe.
The Old Racecourse is on peppercorn rental to the Anglican Church and it is sometimes share cropped.
Located just out of town on the north side of the Esperance Road.
