The site represents an exceptional achievement by the pioneer of the Dangin district. Associations with Parker, the Yarran family, the international and interstate recognition, and the FH Faulding company demonstrate the significance of this pioneering industry in Dangin.
Stone walled, bough timber sheds.
In 1836 Stephen Parker took up a pastoral selection at Dangin Springs. It was not until 1859, that his son Edward Read Parker settled on the selection. In 1892, a eucalyptus oil distillery was operating at the Dangin estate. JW Parker had designed and built the entire distillery, which was the first oil extraction procedure in Western Australia. The oil was extracted from young native salmon gum tress and distilled three times. It won first prize at the Melbourne Exhibition in 1893, and a commemorative award in Glasgow in 1901. It was an antiseptic with healing qualities. A branch of the operation was also operated at Wogerlin (in the Corrigin Shire). A number of members of the Yarran family worked on the Dangin estate and assisted in the oil distillery. Rising costs, increased interstate competition, and finally a destructive storm ended the industry in Dangin. FH Faulding in Perth purchased the manufacturing rights, effectively eliminating any opposition. The Faulding company still produce eucalyptus oil products.
