History

The railway line from Wongan Hills reached Ballidu in May 1912 and linked to Mullewa in June 1912. On the 1st January 1914 a post office receiving office was established at Ballidu.

H. Carter was the first person to receive a permit to build in the Ballidu townsite in September 1922. He built and operated a grocery store, Post office and phone exchange (from 1926). Although the hotel had previously established away from the townsite, it relocated in the townsite in 1923, opposite the railway station on the corner of the main streets. Other commercial establishments commenced trading in that vicinity, and in 1929 the Ballidu Town Hall was constructed on the corner looking down the commercial centre of Ballidu through to the railway station.
