Social significance as a meeting place (it's popularity enhanced by the presence of the railway line), and as a place of employment. Historic significance in its association with Antoni Szczecinski, Mundijong's first publican. Aesthetically the house has landmark value in its pleasing form and proximity to the railway line junction. Important as part of the group of early buildings along Paterson Street.
Although built at the beginning of the Federation period, this commodious house (which has two sections) is more reminiscent of Victorian Georgian style, with its high-pitched hipped broken-back roof, spreading verandah and symmetrical form.
Built by Antoni Szczecinski and ready to open as Mundijong's first hotel in 1892. The hotel did a booming trade during the construction of the railway line and no doubt this gave Szczecinski the confidence to build a new and more substantial hotel. [Refer Local Heritage Place number SJ9-03]
