Statement of Significance

House, 36 Walker Street, is a single storey brick and iron house dating from the 1930s. The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical building stock located within the residential areas of Fremantle. It is historically significant as a representation of typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Inter-War California Bungalow style of architecture.

Physical Description

House, 36 Walker Street is a single storey brick and iron house designed as an example of the Inter-War Californian Bungalow style of architecture. The walls are rendered brick. The roof is hipped and clad with corrugated iron.The verandah is under a continuous roof and originally had a half wall balustrade. One side is now enclosed above this with modern sliding windows. The house sits above street level and concrete steps lead up to the central front door, which is under the verandah. There is a face brick retaining wall garden bed in front of the verandah, and a further low rendered wall to the front boundary line. There is a brick garage to one side, which sits in front of the house line.
