Statement of Significance

The site represents a way of life no longer practiced, and associations with pioneers.

Physical Description

Mud brick cottage, ruins remain.

History

Cecil Mansfield Cook settled on this property before World War One, and constructed the mud brick cottage. It is one of the few in the area representing that method of construction. Cook was one of the members of the Railway League deputation who presented their case for the railway to the Premier in 1911, and in 1913, he was the secretary of the Kondinin Progress Association who wrote to the member of Parliament, asking for a townsite survey. In the 1940s Mr & Mrs W G (Bill) Young lived in the home, after he returned from the air-force. Mrs Young was a daughter of Charles & Amy Pond.
