Smith was reputedly a wealthy man. On the 24 September the foundation stone of the Bendering Sports Club (Hall) was laid by WG Smith, who went guarantor for the £640 cost of the hall, which the Bendering Sports Club repaid over the years, making the final payment in 1950. Connection with Stan Pond. Stan Bond was one of the nine children of Charles and Ada Pond. The original farm was Charles's brother-in-law Frank Smith's; 'Hazeldene, and later Charles took up 'Coralinga'. 'Seymour' was one of the farms which amalgamated to become the 'Ponds'. Mr & Mrs C Pond celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary at 'Seymour'. Stan Pond died in 1966.
