Statement of Significance

An example of boom time architecture in Cottesloe.

Physical Description

Removed from list by Council. "Federation Filigree" bungalow with hipped roof, broken back over the verandahs which surround the protruding front room of the house set high on a hill on extensive foundations. Turned wooden posts and a slatted arched wooden frieze divide the front into bays. The floor of the verandah is wooden. Simple wooden railings with few balusters and a wooden railing to the steep front steps are possibly later additions or renovations. The front door has glazed panes with glazed sidelights and fanlight. The roof has been replaced with zincalume. The tuckpointed red brick walls have a cream painted stucco string course at eye level. The paired front windows are double-hung. The rear has been modified and the brick painted.

History

This was built by the Warboys a professional couple c 1906. The family owned it until 1980. One of the sons who grew up here was Walter who became head of ICI in London and knighted. He was the first chair of the British Design Council in London. The current owners Captain and Mrs John Adams have extended the rear and worked hard to restore other sections as the fabric of the building is deteriorating. Council resolved to remove the property from the Municipal Inventory at its Febuary, 1998 meeting, following a request from the owner of the property.
