Statement of Significance

House, 40 Fifth Avenue, is a single storey timber and iron house dating from the 1930s. The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical building stock located within the residential areas of Beaconsfield. It is historically significant as a representation of typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Federation Bungalow style of architecture.

Physical Description

House, 40 Fifth Avenue is a single storey timber and iron house constructed in the Federation Bungalow style of Architecture. The walls are timber framed with painted weatherboard to dado height, and fibrous cement cladding above. The roof is hipped and clad with corrugated iron. There is a brick corbelled chimney evident. The symmetrical front façade has a timber panelled door with fanlight flanked either side by timber framed double hung sash windows. The verandah is enclosed with lattice to one side. The house is situated above street level. There is a timber picket fence with masonry piers to the front boundary line.

History

This lot (23 CSL 67) is recorded as being vacant in the rate book records of 1918/19. A residence is on this lot by 1930.
