Statement of Significance

The place, for its building form and architectural characteristics, makes a positive contribution to the streetscape and is representative of early development within Bayswater. The place has historic value for its association with the Emberson family, of Emberson's butchers.

Physical Description

An early residence with a corrugated iron hip and gable roof pierced by two tall brick chimneys featuring typical Victorian cement banding and mouldings. The bullnose verandah roof running across the front and down one side also includes an octagonal section over the projecting gable front and is supported on full height turned wooden posts. The walls have rendered quoins to the corners and the windows are double hung wooden sash type.

History

This house was constructed by Walter Emberson, of Emberson's Butchers (15 King William Street) in 1915. It was an elaborate residence for its time, befitting a prosperous butcher.
