The place is a good example of a stone residence in the Federation Queen Anne style, representing the expansion of Fremantle in the gold boom period of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The place contributes to a substantially intact late nineteenth and early twentieth century streetscape close to the centre of Fremantle.
Originally, a single storey tuck pointed brick house set back and above the pavement level, it now has two storey stone and brick additions. This place contains a limestone feature. There is a hipped and half timbered gabled terracotta tile (not original) hipped roof and a verandah which returns down the sides.
Malcolm Street was named for Sir Malcolm Fraser, the Commissioner of Lands and First Agent General for Western Australia in London (1892). In 1899 the lot was vacant. In 1901/1902 a two cottages were present on the lot owned by G Henderson.
