Statement of Significance

Aesthetically significant as a fine example of Fremantle’s vernacular architecture. Typical single storey stone cottage dating from the late nineteenth to early twentieth century. Historically significant as a representation of working people’s living conditions in the Fremantle area.

Physical Description

Single storey stone and brick quoining (weatherboard at rear) and a zincalume hipped roof house. The roof extends over the verandah and is supported by turned timber posts and timber balustrades. The following places form a significant group and contribute to the streetscape of Watkins Street; 52, 56, 62 & 64.

History

In 1900 lot 24 of 84 and lot 25 of 84 were vacant lots owned by the Church of England. (Fremantle Rate Book records).
