House, 194 High Street, is a single storey brick and iron house dating from 1913. The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical building stock located within the residential areas of Fremantle. It is historically significant as a representation of typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Federation Bungalow style of architecture.
House, 294 High Street is a single storey brick and zincalume house constructed in the Federation Bungalow style of Architecture. The walls are red face brick, with arched brick decoration over windows. The roof is hipped with two gables and clad with zincalume. The top gable features a timber roof ventilator. The verandah is under a continuous roof supported by timber posts with timber fretwork. The asymmetrical front façade has a protruding front room under the other gable with two timber framed twelve pane double hung sash windows. There is a red brick corbelled chimney evident with two chimney pots. There is a high brick and timber fence to the front boundary line preventing further description of the front elevation.
As was customary in English towns, the main street of the town was named High St. This Workers Home Board cottage was built c.1913/14 and was first occupied by William H Clark, who lived there until c.1921. Annie Elizabeth Clarkson resided their in 1928/29 and the rate books of 1934/35 record Phillip John Clarkson as living there. In 1939/40 James Taylor becomes the owner/occupier. By 1960 Betty May Taylor is the owner/occupier. The house was originally allocated the number 576 but this changed c. 1939/40 to 294 and is Lot 1582.
