Aesthetically significant as an example of Fremantle’s vernacular architecture. Typical timber framed single storey cottage dating from the first decades of the twentieth century. Historically significant as a representation of working people’s living conditions in the Fremantle area.
Single storey timber framed and weatherboard clad walls with ashlar effect and an aluminium tile (probably not original) hipped roof house. There is a bull nosed veranda supported by turned timber posts and timber frieze. The following places form a significant group and contribute to the streetscape of Watkins Street; 61, 63, 67 & 67a.
A cottage is recorded on lot 11/12 of 79 in 1906/7. The owner, occupier was Edward Gunston. (Fremantle Rate Book records).
