Statement of Significance

House, 97 Solomon Street, is a single storey brick and iron house dating from the first decades of the 1900s. The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical building stock located within the residential areas of Fremantle. It is historically significant as a representation of typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Federation Bungalow style of architecture.

Physical Description

House, 97 Solomon Street is a single storey masonry and tile house constructed in the Federation Bungalow style of Architecture. The left side of the house is red face brick and the right is rendered cream. The roof is hipped and gabled and clad with tiles, with decorative finials. The verandah is under a continuous tiled roof supported by timber posts. The asymmetrical front façade has a front door with timber framed windows with modern security screens. There is a low rendered masonry wall to the front boundary line with a steel gate.

History

This place was identified by the Fremantle Society in 1979/80 as being of cultural heritage significance. (Coded: Red: "Significantly contributing to the unique character of Fremantle")
