Statement of Significance

Historic - the Gnowangerup District High School was one of the first schools to open in the district. This school has been open since apart from the occasional teacher's strike etc. Social- was used as a meeting place.

Physical Description

The Gnowangerup State School was opened on 10th November. 1908. Prior to this site being chosen for the school a site on the northern edge of town had been earmarked for education purposes. The Gnowangerup Progress Association objected as it was some distance from town opposite the old drive in. The school has grown over the years to a District High School with education up to Year 10.
