The place has fine architecture of the grand manner and is associated with prominent citizens. It is a large brick and iron residence. The house is set amidst encircling gardens and many Norfolk Pines from which it derives its name. Built c. 1900 by Edwing Summerhayes architect for William Zimpel, a prominent Perth merchant - it demonstrates a way of life no longer practised except by people of great wealth.
Built by Edwin Summerhayes about the turn of the century for William Zimpel, Pine Lodge is an elegant residence of brick with an iron roof which features a Victorian influence. Sheltered by wide verandahs, with a circular coned roofed turret on one end that has views out to sea. The house has 5 bedrooms, drawing room, a large ballroom plus usual cellar and work areas. The main rooms having large bow windows onto the verandahs. The front door has original stained leaded stained glass, complete with country scene. Many of the carved mantlepieces are said to have come from Mr Zimpel's own factory. The stables are still standing but are now on sub-divided land. The house is completely surrounded by mature Norfolk Island pines, said to have been planted by Mr Zimpel around 1905. The whole garden is surrounded by a high brick and wrought iron fence.
