House, 45 South Street, is a single storey limestone and iron house dating from 1896. The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical building stock located within the residential areas of Fremantle. The place is an example of the Federation Bungalow style of architecture. The place has significant additions but original form remains visible.
House, 45 South Street is a single storey limestone and iron house constructed in the Federation Bungalow style of Architecture. The walls are limestone with brick quoins to the original house, and painted rendered masonry to the rear addition. The roof is hipped and clad with replacement zincalume. The original roofline has been altered to include a rear addition. The high hipped roof extends over the verandah of the South Street elevation. There are large established Norfolk Pines in the front garden, and they and a high timber picket fence at the front boundary line prevent further description of the front elevation. The rear addition can be seen from the Attfield Street elevation. It has high small windows and rendered walls under a hipped zincalume roof.
Built in 1896 as a four-room cottage for Mrs Cornelius Glasson. A 1908 sewerage plan shows a brick dwelling with galvanised iron extensions.
High degree of integrity (original intent clear, current use compatible, high long term sustainability). Medium degree of authenticity with some original fabric remaining. (These statements based on street survey only).
Condition assessed as good (assessed from streetscape survey only).
