Statement of Significance

The site represents a way of life no longer practiced, and associations with education.

History

In 1927, the Parents and Citizen's Association applied for a motor service to convey children to Kondinin School. Later that year,-they applied fora school. Jilakin residents unsuccessfully lobbied for the proposed school to be on a site further south. The East Kondinin School opened on Saturday, 3 September 1928 after being relocated from North Kumminin, and erected by Henry Farr. During 1932 the student numbers were falling, and the East Kondinin School closed on 16 May 1933. Blue flowers at the site were planted by the former students.
