House, 310 High Street, is a single storey brick and iron house dating from 1921. The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical building stock located within the residential areas of Fremantle. It is historically significant as a representation of typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Federation Bungalow style of architecture.
House, 310 High Street is a single storey brick and zincalume house constructed as a simple variation of the Federation Bungalow style of Architecture. The walls are rendered painted brick. The roof is hipped and gabled and clad with zincalume. There are two red brick corbelled chimneys evident. The verandah is under a continuous iron roof supported by turned timber posts. The asymmetrical front façade has a door and window under the verandah roof. The window is a three pane, timber framed casement window with fixed fanlights over. The protruding front room under the gable roof has a window covered by a modern roller shutter. The house is situated at street level.
As was customary in English towns, the main street of the town was named High St. This Workers Home Board owned cottage was occupied by William Henderson Harperin 1921/22. By 1934/35 George Pengilly was the tenant and by 1941/42 this had changed to Emily Pengilly. In 1947 the house was owned by Ronald Thomas Pengilly and occupied by Roy Alfred Deveson. The house was originally number 592 and is Lot 1574.
High degree of integrity (original intent clear, current use compatible, high long term sustainability). Medium degree of authenticity with some original fabric remaining. (These statements based on street survey only).
Condition assessed as good (assessed from streetscape survey only).
