Physical Description

House 125 Holland Street is a single storey timber and tile house constructed as a simple variation of the Federation Bungalow style of Architecture. The walls are painted timber weatherboard. The hipped roof is tiled clad (not original cladding) and has a small half-timbered gable to the front. The front verandah is under a separate tile roof. The verandah is supported by timber posts with a timber balustrade. The symmetrical front façade has a central entry door and timber casement windows symmetrically placed either side of the door. A face brick chimney is evident. The place has a painted timber picket front boundary fence and gate.

History

This State Housing Commission house on Lot 1717 was built in 1935/36 and was occupied by William Staples. Robert Max Staples was still the tenant until at least 1949 (when post office directory records cease). The house was originally number 196, and became number 125 when the whole street was renumbered in 1937. Aerial photos show that between 1995 and 1999 the lot was subdivided and another house built at the rear.
